Laboratory for Disruptive Interdisciplinary Science

Where science intersects, disruption begins

Where biology meets physics, space meets medicine, and the impossible becomes reality.

A new kind of science

LaDIS is a scientific excellence unit powered by the University of Valladolid. A collaborative space where more than 70 researchers come together to push the boundaries of knowledge and turn science into real-world solutions.

Imagine a place where quantum physics informs synthetic biology. Where atmospheric data is analysed with clinical tools. Where a technology built for Mars ends up improving a therapy on Earth. That’s LaDIS: a lab where shared knowledge becomes a new kind of science.

Bioforge

BIOFORGE develops smart biomaterials based on recombinant proteins. Their work opens new pathways in regenerative medicine, 3D printing, drug delivery and biomedical devices.

ERICA

ERICA specialises in high-precision spectroscopy and sensing technologies. Their instruments are part of international space missions, but their impact reaches Earth through applications in diagnostics, environmental monitoring and beyond.

Mathphys

MATHPHYS investigates the foundations of reality and applies them to new technologies. Their research spans relativity, quantum communications, sensor design, cosmological models, and systems biology.

GOA

GOA leads research in atmospheric optics, using advanced sensing to study aerosols, solar radiation and cloud dynamics. Their data informs climate models, air quality systems and renewable energy strategies.

Meet the Minds Behind the Mission

LaDIS is structured around four specialized research groups that together represent a broad spectrum of scientific expertise—from biomedical engineering and theoretical physics to atmospheric sciences and advanced instrumentation.

Bridging disciplines, creating impact

Our five strategic lines are the backbone of this approach. Each one brings together tools, theories and people from different domains to work on challenges that require more than one perspective. These lines are not administrative structures — they are living ecosystems where real collaboration happens.
